Ester is an appealing combination of historic and contemporary Alaska. There are several artist’s shops in Ester, including Judie Gumm Designs. Judie's jewelry is seen in gift shops and stores throughout Alaska.

 The Ester Gold Camp was built in the 1930s for large-scale gold dredging. It closed after 20 years of operation but was later reopened as a summer visitor attraction with live entertainment at the Malemute Saloon, and dining and lodging at the old bunkhouse building. Ester Gold Camp was closed for renovations in summer 2009.
