| Mayo began as a river settlement known as Mayo Landing 1902–03, after gold was discovered in the area. River traffic increased with silver ore shipments from Keno Hill silver mines to Whitehorse. Today, Mayo is a service centre for mineral exploration in the area. Yukon Energy Corporation operates a hydroelectric project here. Mayo has most traveler facilities. Lodging and camping at Bedrock Motel and RV Park. Gas, diesel, propane and snacks at Heartland Services. Free camping at McIntyre Park an dGordon Park in town. Tire repair and minor vehicle repair are available. Post office, liquor store and library; bank service available at grocery store. | |
