| Originally known as Little Prairie, Chetwynd was renamed in honor of Ralph Chetwynd, the former Minister of Railways. Chetwynd is a division point on the British Columbia Railway. Forestry, mining, natural gas processing, ranching and farming are the main industries here. Chetwynd’s collection of chain saw sculptures has earned it the title, “Chain Saw Sculpture Capital of the World.” Chetwynd has food, lodging, gas stations, camping, banks, a post office, recreation centre, laundromats, supermarkets and golf courses. Recreation includes a hockey arena, curling rink, soccer fields and ball diamonds. |
